Coffee Packaging Design with a Friendly Coastal Vibe

Owners Ben and Bri began their roasting journey in the back of their green hippie van, and they haven’t stopped. Their enthusiasm and zest for life is apparent in everything they do, and the time had come to elevate their packaging and branding to reflect this and to differentiate themselves in order to penetrate more of the e-commerce and retail market.

This project began with a branding refresh, where it was agreed that the iconic van graphic should be preserved, but strengthened, and with the business name more tightly integrated into the art. The green colour was also updated to a more vibrant shade, in better keeping with the brand’s personality.

The project then proceeded to include packaging design (with some fun “peekaboo” side elements!), sales sheets, pitch decks and website graphic assets. In keeping with their company ethos, they took the time to source a fully compostable bag and their single serve pourovers are a much more sustainable altenative to coffee pods.

In 2022 the pourover product was a finalist at the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Award

Ben and Bri, the owners of a small coffee roasting business, were passionate about their craft and had been roasting beans in the back of their green hippie van for years. As their business grew, they realized that they needed to update their branding and packaging to better reflect their fun and energetic personalities and to stand out in a crowded e-commerce and retail market.

To begin the project, we worked closely with Ben and Bri on a branding refresh that preserved the iconic van graphic, but updated it with a stronger, more tightly integrated typography and a brighter shade of green that better matched the brand's playful personality.

From there, we moved on to packaging design, which was a crucial aspect of the project. We wanted the packaging to be eye-catching, unique, and fun, while also conveying the quality and sustainability of the product. After exploring a variety of design concepts, we settled on a design that incorporated some unique "peekaboo" elements, allowing customers to catch a glimpse of the coffee beans inside the bag. This added an element of fun and whimsy to the brand, and helped to differentiate it from competitors.

In addition to the packaging design, we also created sales sheets, pitch decks, and website graphics to help promote the brand and showcase the unique qualities of the coffee. We highlighted the fact that Ben and Bri were committed to sourcing high-quality, sustainably-grown beans, and that they roasted each batch with care and precision.

Throughout the project, Ben and Bri remained true to their company ethos by sourcing a fully compostable bag and creating single-serve pourovers that were a more sustainable alternative to coffee pods. They were passionate about reducing their environmental impact and ensuring that their coffee was as eco-friendly as possible.

All of their hard work and dedication paid off when their pourover product was named a finalist at the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Award in 2022. It was a well-deserved recognition for their commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation, and we were proud to have been a part of their journey.

In the end, the new branding and packaging design helped to take Ben and Bri's business to the next level. The refreshed brand identity and eye-catching packaging design stood out on store shelves and online, helping to attract new customers and generate buzz around the brand. And most importantly, the coffee itself was delicious, thanks to Ben and Bri's unwavering commitment to quality and sustainability.
